Fear of Water - Class Descriptions

Intro class (90 minutes*)

Experience a new way to enjoy the water! A low cost swim lesson for those that are afraid of water or new to swimming. Come meet us for a fun and safe 90 minutes where you will be introduced to the Miracle Swimming Institute (MSI) steps in learning to stop yourself from panicking. This is what we teach so you will overcome your fear of water. Sample what it means to be truly comfortable in the water.

Fear of Water Beginning Part 1  (12 hours*)

This class is designed for those who are afraid of water, shallow or deep.  Working slowly at your own pace you will discover how the water works and learn how to prevent panic using the MSI 5 Circles.  Always emphasizing comfort and FUN,  we begin with having your face in the water, keeping water out of your eyes, nose and mouth, floating on the front and back, games and basic propulsion.  As students are comfortable, these skills will be brought to the deep water where we will learn bobbing, getting air, vertical floating, letting go of the wall and jumping in.  Everyone works at their own pace and there is no pressure to complete a designated program.  The class may be repeated until you are ready to explore the deep water.

Fear Of water Beginning Part 2  (12 hours*)

This class is designed for those who have taken FOW Part 1 and want to continue gaining comfort in the deep water.  The class will review Part 1 steps with focus on rolling over from front to back, reversals from back to front, additional propulsion skills, breathing, jumping in and swimming to the surface.  Comfort and FUN will always be emphasized.  As students are ready, we will explore diving to the bottom, somersaults, hand-stands and additional skills preparing for stroke development.  Everyone works at their own pace and there is no pressure to complete a designated program.  The class may be repeated until you are comfortable in the deep water.

Step Up (8 hours*)

This class is designed for those who are comfortable using basic skills in deep water and want to learn how to swim laps.  The class will introduce beginning skills for the Freestyle stroke including rhythmic breathing, kicking, effective arm movement and using fins and kickboards.  You will work on developing stamina as well as having more FUN with jumping, diving, and games.  Everyone works at their own pace and there is no pressure to complete a designated program.  The class may be repeated until you are ready to join the Swim Basics class offered through Dallas Aquatic Masters.

*Total instruction time will vary according to the number of enrollees. Beginning Fear of Water Parts 1 & 2, 4-6 students – 12 hours; 2-3 students 6-8 hours; less than 2 students, class will be cancelled. Step-up – 6 hours. Less than 3 students, class will be cancelled. Students will be notified if class is not full and have the option to postpone, cancel or apply their payment to private lessons.
